Ceremonial flags and accessories
Commissioning a ceremonial flag
We are regularly commissioned to make custom ceremonial flags and are happy to advise on the most cost effective and impressive to suit all budgets. We appreciate that the majority of ceremonial flags are in remembrance or of historical and symbolic interest to those who rally round them so we are happy to talk you through every element of your requirements and give you a number of options for consideration before the final decision is made. There isn't really a one size fits all approach to ceremonial flags so we would rather talk to you, find out what you want and then reach the best option for you somewhere in the middle.

What is a ceremonial flag...?
In the main though, ceremonial flags are usually highly decorative, double sided, interlined and finished with bullion braid to three sides with a plain and/or covered canvas sleeve, ribbon and leather tab to fit.

The Royal British Legion
In 2018 the Royal British Legion and thousands of the Legion members will recreate its 1928 pilgrimage to the battlefields of WWI in Belgium and France.
Between 5th and 9th August, the GP90 (Great Pilgrimage 90) will include a tour of the WWI battlefields and cemeteries in what will be the biggest membership event in the Legion's history. This pilgramage is in memory of the visit to the battlefields of the Somme and Ypres the veterans and war widows made 10 years after the end of the War before marching to the Menin Gate in Ypres on 8th August 1928.
On 8th August 2018, two representatives from every branch and county in their local community will carry standards along the same route to the Menin Gate in Ypres which will serve to represent the generation lost in service of their country.
To mark this unique event, the Royal British Legion Ceremonial Working Group has approved a special scroll for all Standards to be paraded on 8th August 2018. Please contact us for more information on this.

Options to consider
We offer fully sewn or 'half and half' options for the detail and finish on your ceremonials flags and offer a comprehensive range of ceremonial accessories includes standard bearer bucket and cross over leather straps, bullion fringe and tassels, gauntlets, pole ribbons, storage and carry bags and of course the mahogany and brass ceremonial flagpole with 'gold' spear finial and single, double or triple heavy base to match.
Ceremonial flags can be made out of most fabrics. We've used silk taffeta and poly taffeta, woven polyester (MOD spec flag base), cotton drill, silk dupion, upcycled antique flags and wool. There is no hard and fast rule for the makeup of these flags but for larger organisations such as the Royal British Legion there is a set format which aligns with their branding which must be followed to comply.
